Dear Mother:
Again
here it is the middle of the week and
have not written you yet this week.
I spent the better part of the evening up on the post using a special
wide carriage typewriter that we had to use on some special large cumbersome
forms and the commanding General is going to get a copy so we did not want to
fold it to put it into our typewriter.
We spent a lot of time preparing for an inspection
that was supposed to be a great thing and he was going to spend two days
here. Well anyway he spent one half day
here and just whisked thru and didn’t even look at most of the material. We were certainly very sick after all the
work we had spent on the trash.
I
saw a very good show last night, something new for a change “Ali Baba and the Forty Thieves”. It was in technicolor and was displayed to a
good advantage because of the oriental atmosphere which took the color quite
well.
I received both your letter with the pictures and also
Marshall’s letter. He wrote me a nice long five page(s) one and
I shall have to return him one now. I
also owe a letter which I should have
answered by now. I rather like the blue
plaid stationary which you used in your letter.
Received
a nice note from Miss Mosher the
other day and her letter was well received.
You
had not mentioned before of buying Ed
Eckart’s house. It should be a good
investment.
I
want you to inquire at the bank regarding the par value of Western Electric Mfg Co[1]
(The subsidiary of Am T & T that makes the instruments) and also get an
idea of what the price was prior to war etc.
Let me know. I am rather interested. May invest. It has been in the nineties here of
late. If the bank box gets too full get
another larger one and charge me half of the rent.
I
believe in my last letter I mentioned it snowing, well we really had some after
that. It was about two inches deep and everything was certainly beautiful all
covered pure white. The dormant trees
looked very nice and I even had some pictures taken which you will get to
develop for me very soon. I hope the
snow shows up well. We even had some
good snowballs to throw. Please excuse
the pencil I am down here in my quarters and here in my quarters and I ran out
of ink, which I keep in the office. I
would ordinarily be in the office but I had my desk revarnished and it is not
quite dry. It also accumulated some dust
this last coast and will have to be rubbed out.
I
am going to a meeting tomorrow with the Majors and it is all going to be on “Plans
and Training” so we are going to enjoy it since it is about time that they were
getting some information on the subject.
How
is Jay getting along? He owes me a letter, how surprising. It is usually the other way around. I will have to send him a picture or so of
myself soon.
It
will be much nicer for Aunt Maibelle
to have someone there with her. Charlie will be a great help around for
her. That fruit cake which she sent is
certainly delicious.
Had
you heard whether or not Aunt Nina received the 2nd blue vase or
not?
Well
it looks as tho the Allies were
going to stop and have a little quarrel among themselves now. As we have always said we will end up
fighting Russia yet.
The
Major took a picture of Johnson and myself the other day which may be
good. A close up it was, but he always
makes good ones.
I
think that soon I will set aside an amount of money each month and either
invest or save it for some reason or another.
What do you think of the idea?
Well
the time draws on and I am getting sleepy.
Will close for now and finish tomorrow.
Good night.
Here
I am again down here in the office, the desk has a fire and everything is all
set to go for another day.
It
looks some like rain outside this morning and it would not surprise me if it
were to do so.
They
are starting on the furlough question again, and as usual there is a big fuss
over the thing. No one has mentioned one
for me as yet, so here I remain. And if
hey do I am not going to get excited until I am actually on the train.
Well
enough said for now and I must get to work.
Always lots of love,
Your son,
Stanley
